It's Friday! and you know what that means.... tonight is our Free 4 All Crop night at the store!  Come join us for some scrapbooking fun from 5:30pm to midnight.  Call the store to reserve your seat for tonight or any upcoming Friday night.

We have some new products arriving soon.... oh be still my beating heart! Basic Grey's June Bug and Lemonade lines will soon be on the shelves.  I was busy at the store yesterday moving stock to make room for these new arrivals....you do not want to miss out.

Two under $2.00 Redux!

Did you get a chance to try  two cards for under $2.00 using one piece of patterned paper? I have played with it more and I am having a blast with it.  Today I wanted to show you how to make an inexpensive hostess gift.  I used 5 sheets of patterned paper, all with the My Minds Eye French Flea Market Paper.  I made note cards from the first 4 sheets of paper, and I altered a chipboard jewellery box with the 5th sheet of paper and remaining pieces of the "card" paper.    From my own stash i used ribbon that i had left over from a large project and a couple of stick pins from my stash.  I also used paper punch's, a stamp, ink, glue and 9 little gems.  My little gems were from the Basic Grey bling line ... there are 80 in a pack so using 5 cost me maybe .15 cents.  I also used 4 small scrap pieces of cardstock for the center's of 4 of the note cards.
The big expense for this project, was the paper, 5 sheets at $1.15 for a total of $5.75, and the ribbon at $1.75.  From this I produced 8 note cards, in a gift box.  It was fun, it was fast and it is an inexpensive project, perfect for a hostess gift!  Imagine how cool they would look with a Monogram stamp instead of the flower I used.  If you do try this technique, please share with us, we would love to see what you come up with.

Not Your Usual Embellishment

Who says that the embellishments we use on our scrapbook pages and projects have to be manufactured for that purpose? There are supposed to rules about ensuring that what you use is acid and lignin free; archival safe. Although I'm generally a rule follower when it comes to rules of the road, school rules, etc, when it comes to my creative outlet, my art, no rules apply. That's why when I sat down the other day to make this card for my hubby for Father's Day, I knew I wanted to include a non-scrapbooking embellishment. I bought a gift card from Home Depot for my hubby because he's need of a couple of tools, specifically a drill,  and attached to the gift card I chose was this drill bit.

I love how the die cuts from the Collage Press Knave of Hearts line look like saw blades, I layered a couple of them to showcase my drill bit. Then I simply cut two slits in the centre of the top die cut and slid the drill bit in. I didn't glue the drill bit down as it's a usuable drill bit. I also used pieces cut from the paper strips paper and a journaling spot. All the papers can be found in the store.

Friday Night Crop and some last minute inspiration

Today marks the beginning of summer holidays for us as both kids finish preschool today. June has been so busy, but I still wanted to make a card and a give a little something as a thank you to the teachers in appreciation for the wonderful preschool experiences they have given my kids this year.

So the other night I whipped up these three cards in about two hours, it likely won't take you that long, but I'm a slow scrapper. First I hit the Pick of the Patch store to use the Accucut machine. I used an envelope die cut and cut off the thin side flaps. Then I cut three piece of patterned paper, inked the edges and adhered them to the inside of the envelope. I then attached a photo of the kids, layered a circle punched from patterned paper over a bit of my photo and using alphabet stickers wrote out my thank you sentiment. I computer generated my personalized message and glued that to the bottom section of the card. Then I adhered a strip of ribbon to the outside back of the card ensuring it was long enough to reach around to tie in a loose knot or bow.

I bought the teachers a nice bar of soap (who doesn't love a high quality soap, I know it perks up my few minutes to myself every day?). To wrap it, simply cut a strip of patterened paper the same width as the soap and long enough to wrap around the entire bar. Tie with ribbon and bow and there you have a quick, yet thoughtful last minute thank you card and gift. All in just over an hour.

 

Two under $2.00

Scrapping on a dime?  How does two cards for under $2.00 sound?  Here’s my challenge to you.  Take one piece of double sided paper and make two standard sized cards (5 ½ x 4 ¼), and use most of that piece of 12 x 12 paper.

I used:

1 piece of MME French Flea Market Paper – Sophie     $1.15

Scraps of ribbon from my stash. approx  $.50

Small amounts of adhesive and ink  approx  $.25

A corrugated coffee holder   free

Two completed cards $1.90

 

Variations:  Embellish with your left over flowers, buttons, brads, etc from your stash.  Or make flowers or shapes punched from scrap paper.  Stamp a message on a scrap piece of paper.  Doodle a border; use a piece of wrap white cardstock or the back side of patterned paper to insert in the center to record your message.  Use a border punch on edge of the paper strip.  The variations are endless.  Use your scraps, use your stash, use your imagination and see what you can come up with for two under $2.00

Summer Prize Draw & Upcoming Classes

I love to travel and when I go somewhere I always have my handy journal/diary which includes all the addresses of my BF's and family... now I'm adding Pick of the Patch's store address to the list.... why?

Pick of the Patch is have a Summer Prize Draw and it's so easy to enter... all you have to do is mail a postcard to the store from anywhere at all and your name is entered in a prize draw at the end of the summer.  You must include your name and email address on your postcard so the store can contact you if you win!  How fun and easy is that?!  Send us a postcard, we'd love to hear from you!

Journaling Tip & Technique

Journaling is often a challenge on layouts. We may feel like we should add more and say more than just the title, but often we don't know what else to say. When this happens to me, I turn to my embellishments. All those brads, rub-ons, stickers, stamps and such can be a great starting point for our journaling. Either they can trigger what you want to say and you can use them as inspiration for your hand journaling (or computer generated if your penmanship isn't to your liking), or you can piece together a few different embellishments like I did on this layout to complete my journaling.
